BRIGHTON FINALS NIGHT REPORT @ KENDAL 28th April 2004

MENS SINGLES : NIGEL SENIOR (BREWERY TAP) v STEVE MARINER (STADIUM) 10pm

Steve won his 3rd Brighton title by beating Nigel Senior in 2 straight games. After Nigel's initial break of only 1,500, Steve retrieved the balls back only to miss his first one up. Nigel then got the balls back and got up to 3k before he also missed the one up. This proved to be Nigel's last meaningful shot as Steve knocked in 7k to take the first game and then started with a 9k break in the second. Steve now joins Colin Smith (6 titles), Harry Leeson (4), Terry Race (3) and Nigel Senior (3) as players who have won at least 3 Brighton titles.

LADIES SINGLES : GINA SHERRATT (WINDMILL) V SHEENA WOOD (STADIUM) 10pm

Gina took her 4th ladies title with a 2-0 win over Sheena Wood. Both ladies struggled with the table but Gina's experience carried her through. Gina last won this title in 1980 when she played for the Beaufort, but she did have recent success in the Lower Division Singles in 2002.

MENS PLATE : RICHARD WOOTON (BREWERY TAP) V DOUG DAWSON (BREWERY TAP) 9pm

Richard took the plate title for the 1st time with a 2-1 over team mate Doug Dawson. Doug won the first game well with a good 2k break near the end. Richard started the 2nd game faultlessly and was able to touch up on 8k and reached an impressive 14k by the end of that leg. Richard then won the toss and put himself in and started off with 3k, this gave Doug a chance but when he left his one up short the game was effectively over.

LOWER DIVISION SINGLES : JOHN PERRIN (KENDAL) V CHRIS DARVILL (KENDAL) 8pm

Chris Darvill triumphed in the Lower Division Singles but was given a close run by fellow Kendal player John Perrin. Although Chris won the first game against the break John played well to take the second game on Chris' break. John then took the opening break in third but left both balls short allowing Chris to take control. Chris eventually hit 6k to take the title.

MIXED DOUBLES : ALAN BRACKENRIDGE & JEAN OVER (ALBION) V MICK POPE & SHEENA WOOD (STADIUM)  9pm

Alan & Jean won their 3rd Mixed Doubles title together to add to their wins in 1999 & 2001. Jean has also won it 5 other times so this is actually her 8th mixed doubles title - add her 10 ladies doubles and her 16 singles titles, I make it her 34th Brighton title! Mick and Sheena struggled with the table and will be disappointed they could not make it a closer game.
