BRIGHTON FINALS NIGHT RESULTS @ KENDAL 21st MAY 2003

MENS SINGLES : NIGEL SENIOR (DOWNS) v TONY JENNER (GRENADIER)

Nigel Senior took his third mens singles title adding to the wins in 2000 & 2001. Tony started  well after being asked to break making a 4k start, but Nigel got the balls back and hit 7k to clinch the first game. Nigel then made a 9k break to start the second game to complete the victory. Nigel has  joined an elite band of players who have won at least 3 Brighton singles titles - Colin Smith (6 wins), Harry Leeson (4) & Terry Race (3).

Michelle Baden won the ladies title with a fine 2-0 win over Ros Ridge. Michelle has now completed a unique treble by adding the Brighton title to her Worthing and Lewes successes. Michelle has previously won the Lower Division Singles in 2001 and Lower Division Masters in 1999 but this was the title she wanted the most.

LOWER DIVISION SINGLES : TONY THWAITES (WINDMILL) V CHRIS REEVES (WINDMILL)

Chris Reeves added the Lower Division singles to his Lower Division Masters title he won last September. He is the fourth player to complete this double  - Simon Christian, John Robertson & Michelle Baden are the others. Chris showed early nerves losing his opening break of around 3k and Tony opened a small lead. Chris came back with a break at the end to win the first game. Tony hit back with a scrappy win in the 2nd game but when he only went off with a few in the decider Chris showed his class and ran out a comfortable winner.

OPEN DOUBLES : GRANT TULLY & MARK JAMES (STADIUM) v BILL KERR & ARTHUR BREWSTER (GRENADIER)

Bill Kerr & Arthur Brewster upset the form book with a 2-0 win over Grant Tully & Mark James to take the Open Doubles title. Bill and Arthur won a very scrappy first game to put Grant & Mark under pressure, and when Bill secured a handy lead in the 2nd game Grant's break at the end was not enough.

Tony made up for his earlier disappointment in the Lower Division singles with a 2-0 win over Nick Nichol to retain his Landlords title.
