BRIGHTON FINALS NIGHT REPORT @ ROMANS 26th April 2006 MENS SINGLES : ALAN MESSER (STADIUM) v NIGEL SENIOR (BREWERY TAP) 10pm Nigel took on reigning champ Alan in a rematch of Monday's game where Nigel knocked in his first 25k break. Alan missed early and Nigel got the break back on his second visit and killed the first game with a 9k break. Nigel then opened with 9k in game 2 to win his 4th Brighton title. This leaves him joint second on the all time list after Colin Smith on 6 titles and Harry Leeson with 4 titles
LADIES SINGLES : GINA SHERRATT (WINDMILL) V JEAN OVER (ALBION) 10pm Jean played her third final of the night and although she struggled a bit on the table won 19th ladies singles title. Add this to 10 ladies doubles and 9 mixed doubles - that is 38 Brighton titles, no-one can match that! Gina will be disappointed as she was chasing her 5th crown which she last won in 2004
MENS PLATE : BRIAN MUGGERIDGE (STADIUM) V DOUG DAWSON (BREWERY TAP) 9pm Doug will be disappointed not to improve on his runners up two years ago. He should have won 2-0 but black pegged the first game when in front. When it was 1-1 Brian played well to win the decider and his first Brighton title after many years of trying.
LOWER DIVISION SINGLES : TONY WITCOMB (KENDAL) V ALAN MEPHAM (ROMANS) 8pm Alan takes his first title with a good win over Tony Witcomb. Tony failed to avenge the defeat of his brother in the same final last year. Alan improves from his runners up at the Lower Division Masters last year.
OPEN DOUBLES : DAVE REEVES & CHRIS REEVES (DYKE/B TAP) v JEAN OVER & BELLA STONER (ALBION) 9pm Chris and Dave win their 2nd doubles title in a close final. Chris struggled on his opening break but got back in to win the first game. Jean made a superb break to kill the 2nd game in one go. Dave and Bella had to break in the decider but neither went off with a good break. Chris was the next to get the balls back and killed the game off with a 5k break.
MIXED DOUBLES : TERRY MOLLOY & BELLA STONER (ALBION) V ALAN BRACKENRIDGE & JEAN OVER (ALBION) 8pm Alan and Jean won this close match and took the title for the 4th time together, Terry & Bella can't seem to get over the line in this one this is their 5th runners up in the last 8 years.
LANDLORDS : GARETH CORNFIELD (WINDMILL) V WAYNE PRYOR (RACEHORSE) 9pm Gareth retained the title he won for the first time last year.
