GEOFF SAUNDERS (Albion B)
Geoff passed away Jan 2007
Some tributes from the British
Bar Billiards forum Jan 3rd 2007
I learned from my dad
today the sad news that his team mate Geoff Saunders passed away over Christmas.
Geoff played with my dad's team (Albion B) for the past 4 seasons, and had also
played for various other teams over the years. Nigel Senior
This is sad news,
Geoff was a true sport.
I remember he would sit and watch every leg and appreciate each and every good
shot, whether it was a team mate, or an opponent.
There are precious few left from that old school. - Steve Mariner
I encountered Geoff on
many occasions when I played regularly in the Brighton league, going back some
20 years or so.
He cut a distinctive figure with his trademark woolly hat, and had a friendly
word for all newcomers to the league (as I was in those days). Bizarrely I know
exactly how old he was because I remember him telling me once that he was
born the same night that the Crystal Palace burnt down!
As Mario says he was a devoted enthusiast of bar billiards, a gentleman and a
true sportsman. People like Geoff are the principal reason why the bar billiards
community is such a good place to inhabit, and we will be the poorer for his
passing. - Mark James
Yes I never saw Geoff
without his woolly hat.
I didn't realise how long he had been playing bar billiards until Steve Hurley
lent me his file with all his past results from the Brighton League. He played
for the Whitehawk in around 1980, and then Sudeley, the Albion, the Post Office
Club, and I am sure a few other pubs as well. - Nigel Senior
Going to be sadly
missed, and yet another true gentleman and character gone from our game. Our
thoughts are with his family and friends, do we know if a funeral has been held
or when it is going to be if not I am sure many of us would like to pay our
respects and say a fond farewell. - Tony Jenner
