Team titles -
Players
Players come and go from
team to team but there is no doubt that 3 teams have dominated the Brighton Bar
billiard scene in the last 30 years. The West Hill, (current players Chris
Tupper, Colin Smith, Kevin Simmons, Dave Reeves, Geoff Dobson and Mick Winder) have been together for over 30
years (starting at the Spread Eagle I believe) and have won league titles in the
last 4 decades, the last one coming in 2004. The Horse & Groom (current players Terry Race, Terry Molloy, Mick Hall, Terry Coghlan
and Doug Dawson) played for over 20 years
as the Albion D before moving to the Dyke in 2006 but have moved backed to the
Albion in 2010 and have now moved to the Horse & Groom for 2011. They hold the record for
winning the most Team Knockouts with an amazing 6 wins in a row from 1984-89.
The other dominant team ended their days sadly in 2006 as the Stadium "Dream
team" C, but finished on a high with a league and cup double in their last
season. This team was the first Brighton team to taste national success with 3
national titles in a row in the 1990's - lets hope they come back one day.
The
current dominant side in Brighton are the Bib & Tucker C (current players
Richard Wooton, Nigel Senior, Ian Lelliott, Gareth Lloyd, Marc Chipman and Steve
Mariner). They have 4 league titles (in 2007, 2008, 2010 & 2011) and 3 TKO wins (2008,
2009 & 2011) and
they emulated the Stadium's achievement by winning the national title in 2008.
In 2010, the New Sussex Hotel (Kevin Tunstall's side) became the
3rd side from Brighton to win the All England title and retained it in 2011, in domestic terms they have the one league title (2009) and two TKO trophies won in
2007 & 2010, but have sadly stopped playing in the league after the 2010/11
season

This equates to 18,512
per player giving away 3 breaks to the then Brighton Premier division
champions. This record may take some beating. However both Jim Millward
and Steve Mariner touched up when they had enough due to the importance of
the clash, so the final score could have been higher. Mark's 22,140 was his
highest ever break at that time.

Player Rankings records
The Brighton Rankings were devised by Chris
Tupper and implemented for the 1992/93 season. The top 16 each year would play
off for the prestigious Brighton Masters title. Modifications to the system have
been made over the years, a big overhaul coming in 2006/07, with many of the
Sussex Competitions being eliminated from the system, and the emphasis being
more placed on Brighton Bar Billiards. However, it takes a great season to
finish top of the pile and only 7 men have become Brighton number 1 in 19 years
of rankings. Nigel Senior has achieved this feat 5
times.
