Gary Mechan took the Lower Division Masters title by beating the Romans player Dave Nicholls in a tense final. Gary, who has won the lower division singles for the last two year, came back from a 1,920 - 2,300 first leg deficit to win the match by just 290 points. Gary beat teammate Steve Burns in the quarter finals and followed that win a win over his dad Bob in the semis. In the other half of the draw the two Romans teammates Dave Nicholls and Dave Roberts progressed to the semis - with Dave Roberts beating the second seed Mark Scott. Sleepy Dave won the battle of the two Daves in that semi to make the final.

Gary was top seed in the event and has dominated the lower division scene for the last couple of years winning 3 lower division titles in total. Only Simon Christian can boast more with 5 titles (2 singles and 3 masters). Gary won't be able to add to these in the near future as his team the Montreal now enter the first division after winning division 2 last year - but now Gary may have the opportunity to qualify for the main Brighton Masters in 2010!
