The Atlas. Saturday 25th September 2010 Chris Elliott took his first Brighton title by winning the 2010 Lower Division Masters. He beat Phil Reay, who was competing in his first final. Duke of Wellington player, Chris, was seeded 2nd for this event but was a clear favourite having reached the 2008 Brighton Singles final losing out to Kevin Tunstall. A 6k 1st leg lead against Phil was never relinquished and he won the final 13,270 to 3,580. Chris never looked in too much trouble through the day beating Adam Reay (seeded 7) in Round 1 and Pete Brown (seeded 6) in the Semi Final on his way to the final. Phil's half of the draw was more closely contested as he narrowly fought past 2007 champion, Spencer Noble (seeded 5) and then overcame the number 1 seed Dave Roberts in the semi final. Dave had only just beat the 2010 Most improved player and number 8 seed Matt Knight in Round 1 by 880 points in the days closest game. Chris' first title may be the springboard for greater success and will hope to make it back into the main Masters where he reached the semi finals in 2008. Full Results |
