The Downs Hotel was built around 1928 and has been the heart of Woodingdean village ever since. In the second world war planes would use the Downs Hotel as a landmark when returning due to its elevated position. Throughout the years the Downs Hotel maintained its prominence and was even an old haunt of Errol Flynn and his family, nowadays it is owner managed by local people.
