BRIGHTON FINALS NIGHT REPORT @ KENDAL 4th May 2005 MENS SINGLES : ALAN MESSER (STADIUM) v DAVE REEVES (DYKE) 10pm Alan Messer has taken his first Brighton title after beating Dave in 2 straight games. Dave never got going in his 4th singles final and Alan became a worthy champion
LADIES SINGLES : GINA SHERRATT (WINDMILL) V JEAN OVER (ALBION) 10pm A super match to decide the ladies winner, with Jean coming out on top for her 17th Brighton singles title.
MENS PLATE : ALAN BRACKENRIDGE (ALBION) V MARC CHIPMAN (BREWERY TAP) 8pm Marc, a former winner in 2003, lost a 3k break in the first game that would have won it. Alan then capitalised when Marc only went off with 3k as he came back with 5k to clinch his first Brighton plate.
LOWER DIVISION SINGLES : PETER WITCOMB (KENDAL) V HEATHER MILLWARD (STADIUM) 9pm Heather Millward took the Lower Division title in a tense finish against Peter Witcomb. After sharing the first two games, Heather established a small lead in the final leg which she held onto till the end.
OPEN DOUBLES : TERRY RACE & TERRY MOLLOY (ALBION) v NIGEL SENIOR & RICHARD WOOTON (BREWERY TAP) 8pm This was probably the match of the evening. Terry Race and Terry Molloy took their 2nd doubles title together after winning the decider against Nigel Senior and Richard Wooton. Terry Race went off with 10,700 to set Nigel a formidable target on a tricky table. Nigel reached 9,910 before missing a pot at the back of the table which immediately handed the title to the two Terrys
MIXED DOUBLES : TERRY MOLLOY & BELLA STONER (ALBION) V MICK POPE & SHEENA WOOD (STADIUM) 9pm Mick Pope and Sheena Wood took the Mixed Doubles title for the first time, and they won more comfortably than expected by two legs to nil. Terry and Bella will be disappointed as they have now lost this final 4 times in 7 years together.
LANDLORDS : GARETH CORNFIELD (WINDMILL) V GARY COOPER (RACHILL) V NEIL NICHOL (KENDAL) There were three landlords in this years competition so it was decided to play a round robin, each game being best of two legs. Gareth Cornfield of the Windmill won both his matches to take over the title from ex landlord Tony Thwaites.
