The off-the-spot singles was played on the one day at the Stadium. Players are drawn into 4 groups. All play all in a round-robin format over 1 leg. All round-robin matches are even break (although not even time). Top 2 players in each group go into the best-of-two Q-Finals of the Main Comp, 3rd and 4th go into a plate competition (best-of-two). 5th placed player misses out. Group 1: Jim Millward started the day off with a 11,780 break. Chris Tupper lost a 11,600 break and looked close to going out, but he scored enough to scrape through. Group 2: Steve Mariner black pegged on 5k with 2 minutes left against Nigel Senior, which meant Nigel would go on to top the group (as he beat Steve). Steve then had a 14,420 break against the mother-in-law (that went down well! NOT!), and again tweaked up the high break to 17,680 against Colin Green, this proved to be the best break of the day. Group 3: Mark James was never threatened and he eased through. Group 4: The most interesting group, as Harry Barbet beat Gina Sherratt, Gina beat Bella Stoner then Bella beat Harry, leaving all three on 3 points. In such a situation aggregate score decides, leaving Harry scratching his head, saying “If only I’d known”, It was pointed out that all the rules were on the sheet handed to Harry as he came in the door, but it seemed he’d forgotten his glasses! Q-Finals:  Steve Mariner only started with a few against Jim Millward, but Jim couldn’t play for toffee, and eventually Steve got hold of the table and rattled in a 10K break in leg 2.  Mark James eased past Bella Stoner. Chris Tupper and Nigel Senior struggle on table 3, neither having any joy, Tupps got through though. Charlie Cooper beat Gina Sherratt on the back room table. Semi finals:  Mark made a solid 11k in leg 1, Steve having missed a ball up the middle on 4k in leg 2 put an end to his day. The other semi was closer with Chris just pulling clear of Charlie with a minute to go and hanging on (again!). Final: The final was played on the best table, but Mark was soon off and Chris took advantage securing a 5k lead going into the second leg. Chris then started with a solid 8k never really looking in trouble. Plate Final: The plate was won by Harry Barbet on the tricky table 3, so he got some money after all…
